Sermon: The Greatest Of All Sermons
Text: Matthew 5:20-32
Thesis: Jesus Raised The Bar

I. It’s Not Just Literal Murder Which Will Bring God’s Judgement. (v.22)
A. Even how we speak and act towards our fellow man is important.
B. Getting along with your fellow man is extremely important.

II. It’s Not Only Physical Adultery Which Is Sinful. (vs.27-30)
A. Adultery is not just a physical act.
B. The entire body works within the influence of the mind and heart.

III. Divorce It Allowable, But There Are Limitations. (vs. 31-32)
A. Jesus was addressing divorce as it had become too commonplace.
B. Divorce should be the last and only resort.

Conclusion: Why is the Sermon on the Mount considered by many the greatest sermon of all time? I guess it depends on who you ask. But for me, it’s due in part to how Jesus addressed subjects which were relevant to His day. He didn’t duck the hard subjects and taught us how to head off sinful choices before we were faced with them. We will look again at this sermon and seek better to understand the words of Jesus.
