Sermon: How God Sometimes Speaks
Text: Nehemiah 1:1 – 4
Thesis: God Doesn’t Only Speak Through The Pleasant.

I. Tears Sometimes Become Clues To Us.
A. It pained Nehemiah to hear the news of Jerusalem.
B. These tears helped Nehemiah to see God’s desires.

II. Anger Is Natural Towards Injustices Before God.
A. Sometimes a little righteous indignation is good.
B. We just need to fine tune ourselves to the will of our Father.

III. Emotions Will Often Move Us To Action Lest Evil Go Unchecked.
A. Heartbreak can motivate us.
B. We must channel these emotions in the right way.

Conclusion: Bad news of Jerusalem came to Nehemiah. He was so stirred that he began to pray and fast before God asking what God might do to help. Little did he know that he would be God’s answer in part. God will sometimes speak to us through our emotions. In this case God worked through tears and indignation. But God can use our emotions to speak to us as well. Listen carefully and seek to be part of His solution.
