Sermon: The Problem With Doubt
Text: James 1:7 & 8
Thesis: Doubt Only Adds Stress.
I. This Is Like Having Two Masters.
A. No one can be faithful to both.
B. Each of us make a decision as to whom our master will be.
II. This Is Like Saying Two Complete Opposite Things.
A. One part says, “I believe.”
B. The other part says, “I doubt.”
III. This Makes For An Unstable Person.
A. James uses a very descriptive word here.
B. Stability in one area could be evidence of instability in other things as well.
Conclusion: James wants us to see that doubt is no way to live. Trials will come to every person. The right thing to do when this happens is to choose the right master. Trust the Lord Jesus, even when our faith is not by sight. Doubt will cripple us and only add more stress to our lives. But Christ brings stability, not a lack of trials, but strength to endure faithfully. That was and still is the response which will honor and please God.
