Sermon: Advice To Fathers
Text: Colossians 3:21
Thesis: Our Kids Deserve Our Best.

I. Create Rules That Are Clear And Fair.
A. We can’t expect obedience where there is confusion.
B. We can’t expect obedience where there are unrealistic expectations.

II. Confront And Correct Without Anger.
A. There are times we need to confront our children in order to modify behavior.
B. There’s no room for anger in the correction of our children.

III. Enact Consequences When Necessary.
A. Not every infraction is a punishable offense.
B. We want to be clear with our children about discipline.

IV. Reward Obedience And Affirm Love.
A. Rewarding good behavior is just as important as correcting bad behavior.
B. The message of love is the most important message we will give our children.

Conclusion: I believe if we follow these steps that our children will not feel provoked or irritated by our correction and discipline. We don’t want children feel overcorrected or harassed. I suppose it comes down to this, what is the message we want our children to remember most? And what kind of life do we want our children to have as they become adults? We don’t want them to carry resentment into their adult lives. We want them to have well balanced lives and lives where Christ has first place.
