Sermon: Don’t Fall For The Trap
Text: I Timothy 6:9 & 10
Thesis: No Prominence Is Worth Forfeiting Eternity.
I. The Word Urges Us To Avoid This Temptation And Trap.
A. Paul used a very specific word for temptation.
B. Paul has a visual word for trap too.
II. The Word Urges Us To Escape This Lust And Desire.
A. Now think of this progression for a second.
B. Paul breaks down these desires here down into two categories.
III. The Word Urges Us To Destroy This Stronghold Before It Destroys You.
A. Paul wants us to see what being caught in this trap does to a person.
B. In case you don’t get Paul’s point, there’s more.
Conclusion: There used to be a show called “How The Lottery Changed My Life.” Most of the stories are about how people lost their lottery winnings and it’s really sad. But one story I saw was how a guy won a few million dollars and used it to help others and to bless those who had blessed him when he needed it. You know being “rich” is a source of prominence. Unfortunately, it’s the world’s means of prominence. The way to spiritual prominence is different. It’s not about dollars & cents. It’s about considering Jesus for a lifetime. Making His will the most important thing in your life. I pray that all of us can and will do that. Avoid the trap, if caught, escape it as quickly as possible. Then destroy that trap forever.
