Sermon: The Main Point
Text: James 1:22 – 25
Thesis: We’re To Do, Not Only Listen
I. Listen To The Word.
A. Listening is very important.
B. Listening is to be followed by reasoning and considering on a personal level.
II. Don’t Be Deceived.
A. Listening is not enough.
B. Only those applying the Word will be blessed.
III. Put The Word Into Action.
A. The blessings of God are reserved for those who obey.
B. These blessings are the benefits coming to disciples, not mere listeners.
Conclusion: The main point of James is simple and clear. We are called to be doers of God’s will which lays out God’s will. Hearing is good, but not enough. If we stop at hearing, we’re deceiving ourselves into a false sense of safety. But if we follow God’s prescription in live and act on His will then there is no good thing held from us. All His blessings are ours. We are meant to be as the Sea of Galilee. We take in His good news and then share it with others in word and deed. We were never meant to be the Dead Sea.
