Sermon: A Gentle Confrontation With The Best Of Results
Text: 2 Samuel 12:1 – 9
Thesis: Repentance Is Essential.
I. This Story Bypassed David’s Defense Mechanisms.
A. We often raise defensive walls even when we know we’re wrong.
B. Sometimes laying siege or a frontal assault on a wall is not best.
II. This Story Tapped The Part Of The Heart That Only Stories Can.
A. Storytelling is a true and effective art form.
B. The goal of a story is to touch a person deeply and to bring a clearer understanding.
III. This Story Resulted In Full On Repentance.
A. Indignation and sorrow are two emotions which God can use.
B. And now David began the process of repentance.
Conclusion: God loved David a great deal. In fact, God loves all sinners. Therefore, He sent his Son to die on a cross. Before He condemns us, He wants to speak to us and give us an opportunity to repent and change. David’s opportunity to repent of his bad choices and scenes came through the gentle confrontation of Nathan. God may speak and give us our opportunity through someone who confronts us or even in other ways. But know this, God’s confrontation is never to harm or hinder us, it is always to restore us.
